COACHING

We believe that while equality of the sexes is just, males are fundamentally different from females. We recognise that educating males requires a different approach than educating females. Consequently, our method is more geared toward mentoring, as young men tend to respond favorably to this style of leadership. This also shapes the way our daily activities are structured. Task orientation is the method in which we approach the challenges /assignments of each day. We believe that positive action produces rewards and that males understand this dynamic intuitively. Each student earns their reward/consequence through their own actions and choices.

Student Leadership

One of the mentoring processes we employ is that of peer mentoring. As such each year we choose students who have exemplified leadership qualities among their peers. These student leaders become involved in all of the critical decision-making for the school and assist with maintaining an enjoyable learning atmosphere and wholesome community.

This event is a celebration of IMPACT’s contribution to the Bermuda Community. Past graduates are honored as current Kings in their community and new students are honored as rising IMA KINGS.

Journey to Manhood (Spoken Word Night)

Our Technical Trades Program is designed to expose students to the world of physical labor and technical knowledge so that they can become self-sufficient as young adults. For males, it is also especially critical for psychological development. Self-confidence is a by-product of the ability to accomplish things which are tangible.

This also provides the opportunity for skill development from which a number of students have been able to find work and gainful employment. Students have also been able to create or grow products for sale. A sampling of some of the technical courses that have been offered:

IMPACT Bootcamp

The IMPACT Mentoring Academy (IMA) Boot Camp is an integral part of the mentoring process. Students are taken to a local island for 3-5 days at the beginning of the school year. Opportunities are presented through various activities for students to demonstrate their true personalities, values, competencies & self-image. It is intended to be a time of challenge and bonding. The overarching goals are personal development and teambuilding.
